MANATEE — Say what you will about Tea Party Manatee, the group doesn’t lob softballs for candidates to hit out of the park at its candidate forums.

Sunday was no exception as a crowd of 121 gathered for the 2012 Tax Day Candidate Forum in the Garden Oasis Pavilion at Mixon Fruit Farms to see how three Manatee County school board and six Manatee County commission hopefuls would handle curves, sliders and sinkers from Tea Party officials…

…”Reacting to a question, Moates said he would try to cure Manatee’s low overall state ranking in education by concentrating all efforts on kindergarten through third grade.

“We have 37 elementary schools in Manatee County with 10 ranking in the top half of the state and 27 in the bottom half,” Moates said.
