… “So far, three candidates seem to be running on similar platforms of better budget accountability and a clearer focus on directing all available resources to tangible success in the classroom. Many on the establishment end of the spectrum were hoping desperately that Harry Kinnan would consider one more term in District 2. Kinnan was facing a strong challenge from Lakewood Ranch government teacher, Robert Moates, a product of the Manatee Public School system who also brings legislative aid experience in Tallahassee and Washington.

Moates, who announced and began campaigning early, has already raised over $15,000 – a considerable sum for a non-incumbent at this level. The Home Builders Association Manatee-Sarasota and the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance have both recently endorsed him. Together with his fundraising success and strong credentials, this should make him a very difficult candidate to beat.”…
